Beautiful statue of Mahishiasuramardini in lost-wax cast and chiselled bronze. The goddess Durga is represented as the one who kills the demon Mahishi. With eight arms, he wields various weapons and aided by a lion (bottom left) he kills the demon by extracting him from the buffalo in which he was hidden. Behind her an arch with Yali, a five-headed cobra and Kirtimukha at the apex of the arch. Small refined and complicated bronze, in three interlocking pieces. Height: 20 cm. Weight: 1,040 g.
