Provenance: The art historian Anthony Blunt advised the late vendor to buy the present painting at Sotheby's, London, in the late 1950s;
from a Kensington town house.

Condition report:
Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is adequate and the picture is in plane. The paint layer has a few localised areas of raised paint following age cracks but is generally stable. There are some areas of wear and abrasion in the thinner paint passages. There are scattered retouchings across the surface, mainly located in the sky. The retouchings are slightly warm in tone compared to the original. The varnish is slightly yellowed but glossy and even. Frame is in a good condition, there is some wear to the gilding. Inventory No. 11 to the reverse.
