Map Showing the Location of the Northern Pacific Rail
Title/Content of Map: Map Showing the Location of the Northern Pacific Rail Road.
Cartographer: TRAUBEL, M. H.
Date: c1885
Publisher: N.P. RR. ?
Size: 20.25Height - 28.5Width
Large polar projected route map showing the United States from north of the Arizona/New Mexico borders and through most of Canada. The N.P.Ry. did not really come to be transcontinental until 1883, which this shows. The Dakota Territory is not yet divided into states, 1889. The route shown here in red runs from "Makinaw" west through Duluth to Portland with spurs down to St. Paul. Fully hand colored. A curious feature is the concentric rings that radiate out from Duluth giving the distance from that Minnesota city. Isothermal lines and notes suggest the weather on the Northern Plains is quite temperate. Rare and unusual promotional railroad map unmentioned in Modelski (either edition), in the Library of Congress or any published map guide. The lithographer Traubel is unmentioned in Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers. Fragile. Once folded with several fold repairs on reverse. Minor browning, overall clean, colorful and highly displayable. Not in 25+ years of Antique Map Price Record. Rare Northern Pacific Promo - Not in Modelski
