Yellowlegs in Sunlight, 1928, trial proof C-9 (Paff, 285). Signed "FrankWBenson." in pencil l.l., initialed and dated within the plate, inscribed "C-9" in pencil l.l. Drypoint on laid paper with "J Whatman" watermark, plate size 9 7/8 x 7 3/4 in. (25.0 x 19.5 cm), unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Full margins with deckled right and lower edges, pencil annotations l.r., handling creases to margins, cockling to edges, minor nicks/tears to right edge.
Provenance: Descended within the family of the artist.
N.B. The inscription implies that this is a trial proof, but Paff mentions only trial proofs A and B. The changes between the B proofs and the published state which Paff describes are present here.
