A LARGE BURMESE CARVED AND GILT LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF A WORSHIPPER
Burma, c. 1860-1940. The large figure depicting a kneeling worshipper, hands pressed together in prayer, wearing princely robes and a high winged crown, richly decorated with many small polychrome glass pieces.
Condition: Some wear, abrasions to the gilt, minor chipping, cracks and losses. The figure was professionally restored in Vienna during the 1990s.
Provenance: Austrian private collection.
Dimensions: Height 93.6 cm (the figure). Height 27.3 cm (the table).
Together with a low black and giltlacquered table with elephant legs and similar decorations, which was once used in a Buddhist temple, where worshippers would place sacrificial offerings on it. (2)
