Large Serving Tray from the Platterhof HotelSeized by the NSDAP in 1936, the Platterhof hotel became the accommodations of choice while visiting the Berghof complex in Berchtesgaden. The hotel was visited by countless famous (and infamous) people and would regularly house Hitler’s guests: celebrities, high-ranking officers, dignitaries and party officials. Through a series of extensive renovations the hotel quickly became one of the most luxurious and lavish hotels in all of Europe and would be the setting for state functions, official events and elaborate parties.The featured silver plated serving tray is marked with the renowned Platterhof maiden, the trademark of the hotel during its heyday. It is also stamped “Gebr. Hepp” on the base as well as “90”, the number designating the amount of silver plating required for the piece. It measures 12 1/2” x 8 1/2”. It retains the original patina and does not appear to have been polished in decades. Extremely rare piece and an icon of Hitler’s Berghof and the pinnacle of the NSDAP party.
