An Egyptian calcite alabastron, Late Period
An Egyptian calcite alabastron, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, with characteristic long body with rounded bottom and vestigial lug handles, the mouth is wide and extremely thick, and the interior with one vertical narrow bore. More likely a votive piece, the outside left rather unfinished, perhaps an indication that the entire vessel was gessoed and painted. H: 5 1/2 in (14 cm). Light surface deposits. Ex London, UK private collection acquired in the 1970's-80's.
