Chupicuaro Bichrome Bowl w/ Geometric Motifs

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, Chupicuaro culture, ca. 300 BCE to 100 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of an impressive size with a flared rim, squat walls, and a shallow basin that are supported by a short foot. The burnished bowl is decorated with vermilion slip and then with yellow-white pigment that forms intricate triangular, stepped pyramid, and linear motifs. The foot is further decorated with petite triangular perforations, and the underside is unadorned. Size: 9.75" W x 3.8" H (24.8 cm x 9.7 cm)

Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to foot, walls, and rim, with light fading to original pigment, and light encrustations beneath foot, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and root marks as well as nice traces of original pigment throughout. Old inventory label beneath body.
