19th C. Chinese Lacquered Wood Desk Cabinet

East Asia, China, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous lacquered wood desk cabinet with a decorated brass lock and small brass key on a cord. The dark wooden surface of the front-facing doors has a lightly incised motif of a nature scene in the classic style of Chinese art from this period - a serene series of trees and tall plants on the shores of a lake or seaside. Similar nature and floral scenes set in narrow incised borders appear in tableau on the lower part of the body and the sides. Use the key to open the lock, open the doors, and reveal a small chamber divided neatly in half by two drawers! Size: 4.2" L x 7.4" W x 11.8" H (10.7 cm x 18.8 cm x 30 cm)
