Rare Western Han Dynasty Lacquered Pottery Jar
Chinese, Han Dynasty. The ash-gray earthenware body of bulbous form raised on a wide circular foot and narrowing pedestal support. The body decorated in black lacquer and embellished with red lacquer painted hunting figures and fantastic mythical creatures. The bands of figures separated with horizontal bands of stylized forms and ribs. The base and interior undecorated. Approx: h. 12.25" w. 10". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $17,600.
