Greek Attic Black-Figure Lekythos w/ 2 Maenads
Greece, Athens (Attic), ca. 5th century BCE. A lovely black-figure lekythos depicting two maenads sitting beneath a tree or grapevine lattice, with a grapevine between them, and dotted frets adorning the shoulder above. The vessel presents a classic form comprised of a tapered cylindrical body with a planar shoulder, a tubular neck, a thick cup-shaped spout with a flat rim, and an applied strap handle joining neck to shoulder, all upon a tiered discoid base. A wonderful piece, replete with pleasing imagery and an elegant form. Size: 5.375" H (13.7 cm)
