19th C. French Brass Busts of Children (after Houdon)

**First Time At Auction**

After Jean-Antoine Houdon (French, 1741-1828), second half of 19th century. A pair of brass busts depicting children, one laughing and one crying, to represent laughter and sorrow respectively. These busts were created after the work of Jean-Antoine Houdon, a French Neoclassical sculptor best known for busts of famous philosophers, political figures, and inventors during the Age of Enlightenment. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.4" W x 2.75" H (3.6 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: private San Francisco, California USA collection
