Lot of 2 Chancay & Inca Textile Fragments

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE; Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A lovely gathering of 2 textile fragments from two distinct ancient Peruvian cultures. First is a large Chancay panel of a triangular form with stepped diagonal peripheries, a lengthy fringed section along the straight side, and densely-congregated abstract avian figures presented in vermilion, beige, and wheat hues atop the golden-yellow ground. Second is an Inca fan handle with dozens of stepped diamonds with concentric diamonds displayed on the interior, several attached tabs with colorful motifs, and a rigid core, all presented atop a crimson-hued ground. Size of largest (Chancay): 16.5" W x 11.5" H (41.9 cm x 29.2 cm).

Provenance: private Allison collection, Kent, Washington, USA, inherited in the mid-1970s

Condition Report: Both items are fragments of larger textile items. Old losses to fan tassels of handle. Each item has light staining and fading to original pigmentation, minor crease marks, with loosening and fraying to some interior and peripheral threads. Colors and iconography are visible and vivid.
