[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $600**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built pottery statue depicting a seated female figure with legs folded beneath a knee length skirt adorned with alternating red-orange and white stripes. The red-slipped woman presents with a rigid posture, a lightly-rounded abdomen beneath globular breasts, smooth shoulders which taper outward to stocky arms, and a white-painted 'beaded' necklace which accentuates her neck line. Her elongated head boasts impressed almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose adorned with a small ring, tab-form ears with elaborate earrings, and pursed lips above a strong jaw line, all beneath a bulbous forehead. The intricate detailing enlivens the figure, and her naturalistic pose imbues her with a dynamic sense of movement and oration. Size: 6.1" W x 9.75" H (15.5 cm x 24.8 cm).

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
