Published Miniature Greek Glass Pendant - Ram's Head
Ancient Greece, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A fabulous core-formed glass pendant of a miniature size depicting a stylized ram head. The opaque white head tapers to a narrow, yellow-tipped nose, has opaque blue-and-yellow eyes set onto petite indentations, boasts cobalt-blue glass for each horn, and displays yellow glass for the ears and suspension loop on the verso. The ram was a highly symbolic animal in ancient Greek mythology and was associated with aspects such as power, wealth, speed, and heartiness. Wealthy Greeks would have worn this ram head as a standalone pendant or perhaps as part of a larger assortment of meticulously detailed accessories.
