SCARCE FRENCH PATTERN 1822 CONVERSION PISTOL

NSN. Bore .69 smoothbore. Excellent condition French Service Pistol, Model of 1822 and made at the Chatellerault armory. It has original ramrod, lanyard ring fixed at pommel, wood in excellent condition, and all proper inspector’s stamps on left side of stock and barrel (M1 J L) . These cartouches stamps are legible. This is a French pattern that began life as a flintlock in 1822, but was updated to percussion in 1862 as dated on barrel. The nipple mounts on top of the barrel as opposed drum and is referred to as the Belgian method of conversion. The threaded ramrod is original and is a powder measure. Lock is marked with maker factory. Barrel has conversion date. Tang has model number. Brass trigger guard, fore-end cap and pommel. Lock, barrel, hammer and rod are a butter smooth patina. All legends are sharp as new. Wood is excellent with just usual minor impressions. (A)
