REVERDY Pierre [Narbonne, 1889 Solesmes, 1960], poète français associé au cubisme et aux débuts du surréalisme
Autograph poem signed "P.R.", entitled "One man's happiness". 1 page small in-8°.
"He's so
sparing He's so afraid of the blankets
The blue blankets of the sky
And the pillows of clouds
He's so covered with his faith
He's so afraid of the crooked steps
And the streets carved in ice
He's too small for winter
He's so afraid of the cold
He's so afraid of the cold He's so transparent in his ice
He's so vague that he gets lost
Time rolls him under its waves
Sometimes his blood runs upside
down And his tears stain the linen
His hand picks the green
trees And the seaweed clumps from the beaches
His faith is a thorn
bush His hands bleed against his heart
His eyes have lost the light
And his feet drag on the sea
Like the dead arms of octopuses
He is lost in the Universe
He collides
against him-itself and its crosses
Pray, therefore, that the Lord
will erase even the memory of Himself in its remembrance
.
P. R."
