Gerrit Rietveld by Rietveld - 2x Berlin chair

[ translate ]

This chair is one of the most iconic works by Rietveld, together with the Red Blue chair. He designed the chair for the ‘Juryfreie Kunstschau’ of 1923 in Berlin. Since only the original maquette has been kept it is not clear whether the chair was actually exhibited as a furniture piece. In 1960 Rietveld designed two new versions of the chair for the board room of the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam. In this second version cushions were used and one of the chairs (the chairman's) had a higher backrest. The chairs are in very good condition, 1 chair has 2 small damaged spots as can be seen on the photos. They were made by the grandchildren of Rietveld (which explains the 'Rietveld by Rietveld') . Edition from circa 2000. In my possession since 2001. 100 cm high 65 cm wide 55 cm deep
