Face
Raku fired ceramic
Literature: It is the wish to let the work have its own voice that motivates Schor's "faces." In an earlier career, as a psychiatric social worker in the NY prison system, Schor had to pay attention to the nuances of facial expressions. The multiple messages that the face expresses fascinated her and she choose to explore this fascination in clay. She presses out from the back of the clay slab so the face can emerge without the imposition of hand print or tool. It can have its own voice.
Finished in a Raku firing, the glaze and the smoke combine to enhance the form and bring curves and crevices to life. Although the creation of each figure and face is time consuming, each piece is carefully, intentionally spontaneous, catching a moment in time.
Dimensions: 8 x 7 x 1.75 in (20.32 x 17.78 x 4.45 cm)
