Egyptian Gypsum Cup

Ancient Egypt, Late Period, ca. 712 to 300 BCE. A pretty cup, hand-carved and smoothed from a soft white gypsum with grey-black inclusions. The cup is cylindrical, with a wide, unpronounced rim and a thick, flat base. Gypsum is similar to alabaster, a stone commonly used by the Egyptians to create sacred vessels. Size: 3.75" W x 2.55" H (9.5 cm x 6.5 cm)
