A carved Chinese cinnabar lacquer box and cover
Of circular form, the flat top of the cover is finely carved in relief of varying depths depticing five Immortals standing on waterside cliffs in a rocky landscape, including Li Tieguai on a crutch with his magical gourd, while He Xiangu rides a crane in the sky above, reserved on a textured key-pattern ground, the water below depicted as a triangular wave pattern, the cliffside in a florette honeycomb diaper, all set within a key-fret border around the outer edge, the sides of the cover and box similarly decorated with figures among rockwork and pine, the interior and base are lacquered black. Period: Qianlong (1736‑1795). Diameter: 18,5 cm, height: 7,5 cm.
