Iran, late 16th - early 17th century
Of typical compressed globular shape, resting on a plain convex base, rising to narrowing shoulders and a splayed neck, with a reinforced everted circular mouth, the body thickly engraved with Timurid-inspired decorative motifs, the base with drooping floral medallions and a now rubbed ownership cartouche, the centre of the body with lotus flowers interspersed with rosette tendrils on a hatched ground, the neck engraved with free-flowing naskh calligraphy in praise of the vessel and its qualities, interspersed with rosette tendrils and clover-shaped flowerheads, 8.2cm high and 11.8cm diam.
