Virgin Mary with child Jesus - Baroque - Wood - First half 17th century
Part of my personal collection of religious articles, more precisely this magnificent carving from the early 17th century (1600-1650) , one of my favourite pieces, probably Spanish. You can appreciate, thanks to its large size, a series of impressive details, despite the time elapsed. The polychromy is still very present in the work, you can see the Virgin with her crown and her cheeks flushed and her red lips, covered by the blue mantle, colour of the Virgin in a relatively excellent state despite the age. The baby Jesus has golden hair and the polychromy on his face, held by the hand of the Virgin while holding the orb. The wood was treated to prevent bugs, delivery at collection point if possible and insured shipping.
