Friedrich Gebhart was a teacher at the Werkkunstschule and a professor at the Münster University of Applied Sciences after completing his training and master craftsman's examination as a gold and silversmith and teaching in Frankfurt from 1959. His designs impress with their clear shape, their material-related design and the reduction to the essentials. In addition to his sacred designs, including for buildings by well-known architects such as Rudolf Schwarz, he has been designing jewelry since the 1930s. In the 1950s to 1970s, together with his wife, the fashion designer and goldsmith Herta Gebhart, he created unusual ensembles of elegant dresses, matching pieces of jewelery and accessories of reduced beauty, which Herta Gebhart herself, among others, presented at fashion shows. Friedrich and Herta Gebhart received numerous prizes for their work, including the State Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1967, which was awarded by Federal President Walter Scheel, and the German Jewelery and Gemstone Prize in 1979. Her masterly designs were exhibited at the world exhibitions in Brussels in 1958 and in Montreal in 1967 and presented at international traveling exhibitions of German handicrafts in India in 1965 and in the USA in 1966.Show full text
