BRADDON, M[ARY] E[LIZABETH]. Lady Audley's Secret. Printed in double columns. 8vo, original printed wrappers, corners torn with slight loss, abrasion to backstrip with loss of several letters, scattered light soiling, ownership signature to front wrapper and title, paper restorations to wrapper edges; occasional spotting or marking to contents; cloth folding case. New York: Dick & Fitzgerald, [1863]
first american edition in wrappers (apparently a cloth bound edition in New York also appeared in the same year). First issued in book form in London in 1862, where it proved immediately successful, going through eight printings in just three months. OCLC locates two copies of this edition: LOC and Brown University. An unlikely survival, with no other examples as here traced at auction.
