''Sailing in love'' 2022
Embroidery on fabric
Diameter 20 cm
Yaara Chotzen is a queer embroiderer. Her works are inspired by ancient pictures. Some of the pictures of lesbians in black and white that become colorful in the embroidery threads. Some of them are women in gentle photographs, clothes with lots of fabric that has been left for a long time. In her works you can almost touch the fabric and talk to the embroiderers.
"I first choose the fabric and the hoop. Then the photo from which I will draw. As soon as I start embroidering, I forget the original image, but the outlines are there with me. The colors of the threads, the types of threads, the density of the thread - all these are like a letter in which I talk through the years with the characters in the photograph. Years I could have been them and they could have been me. Figures frozen for one moment in time and I don't know how they feel. If for a moment they would turn their face to the other side, their hair hidden, they get up and walk around in their room or in nature. I don't know but I feel them -Me and the creator of them in my embroidery in my image-in their image. We correspond. They are my pen pals. The needle is the pen."
