May 22nd 1845; pencil and watercolour on paper laid down on card, inscribed and dated as titled (lower centre), 6.3 x 19.1 cm., together with seven etchings presumably from Read's designs, 9.7 x 8.6 cm. and smaller, eight (8), (all unframed). Provenance: Collection of William Drummond.; Private Collection, UK. Note: Lieutenant Read of the Hussars served in Madras and produced drawings there and on his travels. The present work, in which an enraged cook admonishes a servant who leaps overboard, is taken from an album.
