Note:
An early 19th-century copy after a larger painting on panel by Raphael, dating to 1516-18, and housed in the Museo e Gallerie Nazionali di Capodimonte, Naples [no.146]. This tender depiction of the Holy Family represents a subject which was central to Raphael's oeuvre. It depicts Saints Mary and Elizabeth with the baby Jesus and a genuflecting Saint John holding a cross of reeds. Jesus, assisted by Saint Elizabeth, appears to be blessing Saint John. In the shadows stands Saint Joseph.
