The artist, Fred M. Hines, was a Maine resident for most of his life. The extremely talented Mr. Hines resided in Kennebunkport, Maine for more than 30 years; his galleries in Kennebunkport and along Route 1 housed his arresting oil paintings. He specialized in ocean scenes; Mr. Hines had a means of breathing life into his artwork. The manner in which he was able to have the sea flow out from the canvas and envelope the viewer was at times mesmerizing. Mr. Hines took commissions in the winter and his paintings sold for thousands of dollars and took months to finish. Up until his death he was one of Maine's most talented and most sought after artist; he pasted away and is buried in Oak Cemetery in Springvale, Maine.
