William A. Slaughter was known for painting extraordinary Texas Hill Country landscapes in the naturalistic style. Slaughter was incredibly detail-oriented and displayed nature as it appeared to the naked eye. The "Slaughter Oak" is a characteristic feature in many of the artist's landscapes. Slaughter belonged to and exhibited with the Artists and Craftsmen's Association of Dallas. The Association awarded Slaughter first place in both still life and landscape painting.
