An Italian maiolica bianco-sopra-bianco istoriato large dish, circa 1540, Urbino or Casteldurante
painted to the centre with an istoriato scene of Venus and Cupid within a broad grey-ground border, the central roundels radiating a quartiere petal-shaped panels decorated in bianco-sopra-bianco with scrolling leaves, the rim with a band of meandering foliage around a narrow band

Condition Report:
Overall in good order and of good appearance.
At 10 o’clock a section of the rim has been re-stuck in two sections; it measures 9 cm x 3.5 cm. Associated spray to the underside. At 2 o’clock a chip to the edge of the rim has been repaired with associated overpainting to the underside. Otherwise typical minor glaze chipping a flaking to the rim.
