A South German notable processional pole with Saint Nicholas, circa 1680
Lime wood, painted in colour and gilt. The turned columns rising up from undulating pedestals, holding up a magnificent baldachin. On top of the baldachin, four curved supports hold a multi-stepped candle holder. Iron drip pan with a short pricket. The construction contains a finely carved figure of Saint Nicholas with a bishop's mitre, a book and three balls. The lower section adorned with four cherubs, on the original, turned carrying pole. Restored in places. Overall height approx. 2.7 m.
