A Byzantinian statuette of the Mother of God with Child, made of bone,14th century
On a low, square pedestal the figure of Our Lady (Hodegetria) standing frontally in a slight contrapost, dressed in a mantle with veil finely pleated on the front. In her left hand she holds the infant Jesus, who holds a scroll in his left hand and raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing. With her right hand Our Lady points to the Child Jesus as the way of salvation. Coloured green by the formation of the mineral vivianite due to the former storage in the ground. Stress cracks on the front and back, as well as in the base, which however do not impair the overall impression of the high quality bone carving. Height 9.3 cm.
