A heavy German rapier, circa 1600
Wide, fullered blade, single-edged from the forte to the centre, the obverse stamped with a lozengy shield mark. Robust iron swept-hilt. Fluted wooden grip (wire wrap missing) with two remaining brass Turk's heads. Large barrel-shaped pommel with tang button. The quillons slightly bent, surfaces patinated. Length 106 cm. The lozengy shield mark allows the assumption that the blade was probably made in the shop of Melchior Diefstetter (verifiable 1497 - 1556).
