A luxurious German gold-damascened rapier, early 17th and 19th century Thrusting blade of flattened-hexagonal section. The forte on either side with silver-inlaid dots and finely etched scrollwork within a wide fuller. The engraved ricasso with traces of gold plating and "CAINO" inscription on both sides. Iron swept hilt with vertically recurved quillons. Decorated all-over with a fine gold-damascened floral design, cherub cartouches and Turk's heads. Compressed oval pommel with rich gold damascening, on either side a warrior head cartouche surrounded by floral ornaments. Length 123 cm. The gold-damascening was probably added in the age of Historicism.Condition: II
