An Inlaid Wood Large Tonkotsu (Tobacco Box)
Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century
Of straight-sided form and oval plan, inlaid with one large radish in horn and one small radish and leaves in stained bone and lacquer, with fifteen metal ants in brass and shakudo crawling over the surface, a snail slithering over the cover shown on the reverse; unsigned. 8.5cm x 12cm (3 3/8in x 4½in).
