A 16th century Italian carved stone head
Carved in the round, patina throughout. This small, fragmentary sculpture of a hand holding aloft a severed head with blood pouring from the neck could be the head of John the Baptist from a depiction of Salome.
The underside of the hand drilled to a plexiglass stand. Height 12 cm.
