Vanitas Still Life with a Skull, Bust, Clock, Globe and Bottle

Signed and dated centre left: E. Collier fe 1676.
This vanitas still life, dated 1676, was painted by Breda-born Edwaert Collier during his time in Leiden, where he worked as of 1667 before moving to London in 1693. In a densely packed composition, it shows many of the characteristic objects that reappear in other still lifes by the master, including a human skull and a clock, characteristic references to the transience of all earthly things.
