"2 macabre dances" - oil on the tablet - Late 19th century

[ translate ]

Two interesting oil on panel paintings dating back to the 19th century, both depicting a "Danse Macabre" set in a landscape with architectural ruins. The main theme is represented by a skeleton (Death) pulling a monk's beard hair; in the other painting still a skeleton pulling a nobleman’s hair . These paintings were probably ceiling plates, set into a coffered ceiling. Style and topic recall Vincenzo Bonomini from Bergamo, a 18th century painter of macabre scenes. This item is part of a series of other plates owned by me, that I have been collecting for 50 years. Size is 26 x 18 cm and 25 x 18 cm.
