A Chinese bronze archaic wine pouring vessel, jue, late Shang dynasty, 12th-11th century BCE, finely cast with a band of two taotie masks on a leiwen ground seperated by notched flanges, beneath an upper band of blades rising towards the rim beneath a pair of posts surmounted by domed whorl-decorated caps, inscribed with two characters beneath the loop handle, with mottled grey and green patina and light malachite-green encrustations, 19cm high Provenance: Private London collection, acquired from Bluett & Co ca.1960s, and thence by descent. The vessel is listed in a list of the collection for insurance collection produced in 1977
