Each with “Garlic-bulb” neck, modified ruyi-scepter handles; each decorated with mirrored circular reserves depicting a cockerel and chick, and a pair of quail, with flowers and rockwork, all against dense millefiori ground, underside with apocryphal six-character Qianlong seal mark

Robert Schmidt-Hamburg was a German artist best known today for his Marine portraits and atmospheric landscapes. He travelled widely throughout the world pursuing subjects and commissions, both private and for major shipping concerns. According to family history, the present pair of vases was acquired in Hong Kong during these travels.
