Chinese Gilt Bronze Green Tara, 18th Century

A Chinese gilt and painted bronze statue of Green Tara dating from the 18th century. She sits in lalitasana with her right foot dangling off the front of the double lotus pedestal. Her right hand rests palm up on her leg, and her left hand holds a lotus near her chest. She wears elaborate lotus border lower garments and jewelry. Her long hair falls over her shoulder, and her top knot is adorned with an image of Amitabha Buddha. Tall lotuses and a halo-like headdress frame her head. The bottom of the statue is sealed with wood painted with a vajrachakra.

Dimensions are: 14 inches tall X 8 3/4 inches wide, 35.6 cm X 22.2 cm. Weight: 1750 grams. All measurements are approximate.

Condition: There are numerous missing components including her crown, parts of her halo, her earrings, the lotus rest for her right foot, as well as elements previously attached to the front of her chest and her upper arms. The halo headdress is detached from her head and shows signs of repair. There are dents throughout, particularly to the back of her head and to the right side of her body. The back of her head shows signs of repair. A pin may have been added to her forehead. A reminder that all lots are sold as-is.
