[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $400**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fun necklace strung with dozens of ancient faience seed beads in a variety of dazzling colors: different hues of yellow, red, brown, blue, and green. The necklace is composed of a single strand around the clasp that then meets two sterling silver pendants before splitting into six strands. An attractive and wearable example of ancient art meets modern style, with a modern sterling silver clasp. Size of largest faience bead: 0.05" W (0.6 cm); length of strand: 19" L (48.3 cm)

"Egyptian faience" was known as "tjehnet" to the ancient Egyptians, meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements, including copper oxide, which gave it its distinct blue/green tint. Faience beads were used in elegant jewelry as well as special funerary nets placed over mummies.

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
