[ translate ]

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A fine mold-formed faience ushabti standing atop an integral rectangular plinth. The blue-green-glazed figure stands in mummiform with fused legs in front of a dorsal pillar, holds a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and has a seed bag displayed behind the left shoulder. The serene countenance is comprised of almond-shaped eyes with elongated corners, full lips, a plaited false beard, and cupped ears, all framed within the lappets of the tripartite wig. A T-shaped column of hieroglyphic symbols is inscribed in front of the legs and, though untranslated, likely provides the names of Osiris and the deceased. Size: 1.1" W x 4.3" H (2.8 cm x 10.9 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Julian Bird collection, London, UK, acquired between 1970 and 2012

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
