Folio imperiale oblungo, 480x670 mm. Legatura coeva mezzo marocchino e zigrino verde, angoli, filettature e titolo inglese in oro al piatto anteriore, filettature in oro al dorso, fogli di risguardi marmorizzati. 24 tavole incise su rame da Volpato, Bartolozzi, Berardi e Wagner. Le stampe recano le iscrizioni al margine inferiore: a sinistra il nome del pittore, a destra il nome dell’incisore, al centro i versi del titolo, sotto a sinistra la numerazione progressiva. Ottimo stato di conservazione, tavole con ampi margini.Rarissima raccolta di due serie di paesaggi da dipinti di Zuccarelli e Zais. Queste due opere, qui riunite insieme, illustrano in maniera splendida la pittura di soggetto arcadico di Zuccarelli e Zais, i quali realizzarono paesaggi pittoreschi ed arcaici che ebbero molto successo, soprattutto fra i collezionisti inglesi, come ad esempio il celebre Console Joseph Smith. La prima serie è incisa in orizzontale e contiene 4 paesaggi da dipinti dello Zuccarelli e 8 da dipinti dello Zais. La seconda serie, in verticale, è interamente dedicata ai paesaggi di Zuccarelli. Le due serie recano in basso la numerazione progressiva 1-12 e spesso anche il nome del proprietario del dipinto, il console Smith, Antonio Maria Zanetti, Francesco Maria Canal. Nella prima serie le tavole sono firmate dagli incisori, rispettivamente, 2 da Volpato, 2 da Bartolozzi, 3 da Wagner, 5 da Berardi. La seconda serie reca la sottoscrizione della Calcografia Wagner, presso la quale, intorno alla metà del Settecento, lavorano tutti questi incisori, che spesso non firmavano le loro tavole. Queste due serie non compaiono nelle bibliografie consultate e si possono rinvenire solo alcune singole stampe, censite separatamente. L’esemplare è appartenuto sicuramente ad un collezionista inglese dell’epoca, che pone sul piatto superiore il titolo “Engravings from Zuccarelli”. Cfr. Condition Report: Oblong imperial folio, 480x670. Contemporary half-Morocco binding and green shagreen, corners, rules and English title in gilt on the front cover, marbled end papers. 24 plates engraved on copper by Volpato, Bartolozzi, Berardi and Wagner. The engravings bear the inscriptions in the lower margin: on the left the name of the painter, on the right the name of the engraver, in the center the lines of the title, below on the left the progressive numbering. Excellent conditions, with wide margins.
Very rare collection of two series of landscapes from paintings by Zuccarelli and Zais. These two works, brought together here, beautifully illustrate the Arcadian painting of Zuccarelli and Zais, who created picturesque and archaic landscapes that were very successful, especially among English collectors, such as the famous Consul Joseph Smith. The first series is engraved horizontally and contains 4 landscapes from paintings by Zuccarelli and 8 from paintings by Zais. The second series, vertically, is entirely dedicated to Zuccarelli's landscapes. The two series bear the progressive numbering 1-12 at the bottom and often also the name of the owner of the painting, the consul Smith, Antonio Maria Zanetti, Francesco Maria Canal. In the first series the plates are signed by the engravers, respectively, 2 by Volpato, 2 by Bartolozzi, 3 by Wagner, 5 by Berardi. The second series bears the signature of the Wagner Chalcography, where, around the middle of the eighteenth century, all these engravers work, who often did not sign their plates. These two series do not appear in the bibliographies consulted and only some single prints can be found, registered separately. The specimen certainly belonged to an English collector of the time, who places the title "Engravings from Zuccarelli" on the upper plate.
