FINE RUSSIAN SILVER GILT & ENAMEL ICON TRIPTYCH C. 1900. Comprising an exceptionally well-crafted icon triptych, the ogee arch form gilded silver frame in three hinged parts profusely engraved overall in scrolling foliage and the border banded in engraved vines on a stippled gilt ground. The central panel with The Appearance of the Mother of God to the Venerable Sergiy, traditionally depicted in an interior with the Old Testament Trinity shown above. Overlaid with a highly detailed engraved gilded silver riza the vestments and haloes of the Virgin and Sergiy separately rendered in burnished and matte gold plating and the haloes with champlevé enamel banding. The borders in cloisonné and shaded enamel and below a champlevé enameled title plaque identifying the subject as "The Appearance of the Most Holy Mother of God to the Venerable Sergiy". The left wing with St. Alexis Metropolitan of Moscow. The vestments also separately rendered and applied with burnished and matte gold finish his halo with enamel banding and title and book of Gospels also with enameling. The right wing with St. Elizabeth also with separately rendered and applied vestments and enameled halo with name and both wings with cloisonné and shaded enamel borders matching the central panel. The central panel mounted with folding clasps on top and bottom. Hallmarked Moscow circa 1896-1908 and Cyrillic maker's mark СИ.З. and 84 standard. Height 7 inches (17.5 cm) width when open 9.9 inches (25 cm). Stunning!
