Ferdinand Barbediienne - Vase - Bronze (gilt)
Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810 - 1892)
Small gilded bronze vase with relief decoration of plants ending in dolphins. There are three heads which resemble a Hellenic god.
In 1837, he filed a patent for a technique for reducing sculptures in the round (relief sculpture which has the particularity of standing out from the background) .
The Barbedienne bronze technique: Barbedienne creates a wax model which he places in a plaster mold. The bronze is cast in plaster. Once the bronze has hardened, the plaster is broken to bring the sculpture to life. The work is finally polished and patinated.
