Folding Brass Case Travel Icon.
Eastern Europe, circa Late 19th Century. A quadriptych icon in a brass and leather-inset folding case, the painted miniatures tempera and gilt on wood panels, the center two depicting versions of the Virgin and Child, the left Saint Nicholas, at right three saints. 4" x 3 1/2"; width opened 13". Condition: craquelure, Nicholas with cracks that have been in-painted, the saints with scattered small spots of possible in-painting. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
