A LARGE DATED ICON SHOWING THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD Greece, dated 1871. The Icon of the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos shows the Mother of God on her deathbed surrounded by the Apostles. Christ is standing in the center looking at his mother. He is holding a small child clothed in white representing the soul of the Virgin Mary. With His golden garments, the angels above His head, and the mandorla surrounding Him, Christ is depicted in His divine glory. Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. 55. 2 x 27. 8 cm. Dated '1871' lower right. Accidents and missing parts (mainly on the body of the Virgin) but no fragility of the paint layer. Origin: German private collection. Careful packaging and secure shipment with tracking number.
