In the Heat of the Night Gottfried Helnwein, (*1948)

When I opened my first Mickey Mouse magazine at the age of 5, it was an epiphany for me, I entered a completely new, three-dimensional, fantastic world. For the first time I consciously perceived colours and I experienced a chain reaction of sensory perceptions. It was a breakout from the narrow, dark and depressive adult world of post-war Vienna, which had had a stranglehold on me until then. I could breathe again, I had arrived in my home of Duckburg. That was my first encounter with great art. - Gottfried Helnwein in an interview with the Deutsche Zeitung, 2012 Provenance: Austrian private collection.
